January Brunch Book Club

  • Scarlett Green 4 Noel St, London W1F 8GB London, England, N16 8JH United Kingdom (map)

Kick off 2025 with Brunch Book Club and a book that will tug at your heartstrings. This January, we’re reading Intermezzo by Sally Rooney — a deeply moving exploration of family, love, and identity through the eyes of two grieving brothers. Our day begins with an online discussion where you can share your thoughts, debate themes, and connect with fellow readers in a safe, friendly space.

After we’ve delved into the book, we’ll meet for brunch at Scarlett Green in Soho. With its iconic palm-print decor, chic cocktails, and vibrant atmosphere, Scarlett Green has earned its spot as the number one brunch destination in the world. From hearty plates to vegan delights, there’s something for everyone.

Once we’ve satisfied our brunch cravings, we’ll move to a nearby bar to keep the conversation flowing over drinks. Whether you’re here for the books, the food, or the chance to meet like-minded people, Brunch Book Club is the perfect way to brighten your January.

See you at brunch! 🥂📚🥑

Scarlett Green, Soho

Scarlett Green occupies a large two-floor site where palm-print menus, dusty pink plates, and marble-topped tables are designed to ensnare passing millennials. As is the bar (flat whites and chic cocktails a speciality), the staff (young and chatty) and the food.

Quintessential heart of Soho, Scarlett Green is proud title holder of Number One Brunch Spot in the World on Trip Advisor. Great for weekday business meetings, festive bottomless brunching and intimate evenings spent chatting over exclusive Pornstar martini fountains and sharing BBQ meat or vegan boards (see our ‘Scarlett Nights’ menu). With live music on Friday nights, it’s a great spot for large groups and birthday celebrations with a lively atmosphere. The downstairs dining area and booths offer a more intimate experience, perfect for dinner dates.

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

Aside from the fact that they are brothers, Peter and Ivan Koubek seem to have little in common.

Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties – successful, competent and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women – his enduring first love Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke.

Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret, an older woman emerging from her own turbulent past, and their lives become rapidly and intensely intertwined.

For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude – a period of desire, despair and possibility – a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking.
