This Women’s History Month, we’re honouring powerful storytelling and unforgettable voices with 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction winner Brotherless Night by V. V. Ganeshananthan on International Women’s Day no less. Set against the backdrop of Sri Lanka’s civil war, this poignant novel follows Sashi, a young woman grappling with ambition, loss, and the moral complexities of her time. It’s a story that will move, challenge, and inspire you.

Our day begins with an online discussion where we’ll dive deep into the book’s themes of resilience and humanity. Then, join us at Lantana in London Bridge for a delicious brunch inspired by the vibrant flavors of Australia. Known for its cozy charm and standout menu, Lantana offers the perfect setting to continue our conversations in person.

To round out the day, we’ll head to a nearby bar for drinks, laughter, and connection. Whether you’re a seasoned Brunch Book Clubber or joining us for the first time, this is a chance to celebrate incredible literature, enjoy fantastic food, and meet fellow book lovers in an inclusive, welcoming space.

See you at brunch! 🥂📚🥑

Brotherless Night by V. V. Ganeshananthan

Sixteen-year-old Sashi wants to become a doctor. But over the next decade, as a vicious civil war tears through her hometown of Jaffna, her dream takes her on a different path as she sees those around her, including her four beloved brothers and their friend, get swept up in violent political ideologies and their consequences. Desperate to act, she must ask herself: is it possible for anyone to move through life without doing harm?
